The Effects of Climate Changes on the Energy Sector

The UN initiated international panel on climate change has ascertained that the anthropogenic increase of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere is changing the global climate, and will do so even if stringent emission reductions were to be accepted today.

In a global context, emissions of greenhouse gasses from the production and consumption of energy are responsible for a substantial share of the total emissions. The previously mentioned four areas of research aim at reducing the emissions of greenhouse gasses through technological development and integrated solutions. In addition, major areas of study include assessments of the effects of climate change on the production of renewable energy, energy consumption patterns and the choice of policy instruments aimed at reducing CO2-emissions.
