Prime Minister of The Faroe Islands, Jóannes Eidesgaard, will give an introductory speech to the symposium delegates on Tuesday. Eidesgaard has been prime minister in the Faroe Islands since 3 February 2004.

Eidesgaard represents the Social Democratic Party in the Suðuroy constituency.

"In all these countries and areas, there is a sig-nificant need for a general change to renewable energy for supply service also including transporta-tion and fisheries. More use of renewable energy should be possible as most of the countries have enormous resources of a specific renewable energy source – or even of more than one."

Several keynote speakers are ready for the symposim. Talking about issues ranging from the impact of climate change and renewable energy to the very scope of available resources our speakers cover a vide range of topics.

Senior Official and Chairman of the Task force for sparcely populated areas, Sùsanna Sorensen is the chair of the symposium. She will deliver the introductory speech, and welcome the participants.

The convenor of Shetland, mr Sandy Cluness, will welcome the symposium participants on Tuesday the 11th of September.
